Getting found
What to Look for When Hiring a Web Designer
June 24, 2026 · 5 min read
Hiring someone to build your website is a real decision. Here's what to look for — and a few red flags — so you end up with a site that actually brings in customers.
Green flags
- They ask about your business and customers first — not just colors
- They build for mobile and speed, not just looks
- They handle local SEO so you actually get found
- Clear, plain pricing with no surprises
- You can reach the person who actually builds it
Red flags
- A $20 template dressed up and sold as 'custom'
- No mention of mobile, speed, or SEO
- Vague pricing, or a big upfront bill with little clarity
- You'll never talk to the person doing the work
- They can't explain how the site will bring you customers
Questions worth asking
- Will my site be truly custom, or a template?
- Is it built to load fast and rank in local search?
- Do I own it — and what happens if I leave?
- Who do I contact when something needs fixing?
At Keystone, you work directly with me, your site is hand-coded and built to be found, and the pricing is plain. If that's what you're after, let's talk.
